Our carers are the heart of Anchusa Care. We invest in them because we insist on delivering high quality care to the people we care for, and we look after them as part of one big family.
We choose our carers for their values as much as their experience. Throughout recruitment and training, every carer has to show that they share our kindness, respect and empathy. All of our carers are DBS checked, and we always take up references and check their work history in full.
Before anyone works on their own in the community, they complete the theory and practice of care with us, including time in our training room, which is set up like a real home.
Our carers work permanent rounds, so you see the same small team each week and they get to know you. Each carer looks after four or five people in one town, rather than travelling all over. Almost all of our visits are 30 minutes or longer, so there is time to do things properly, and we only use 15-minute calls occasionally, for medication prompts.
Our on-call team is available from 7am to 10pm, seven days a week, to support our carers whenever they are working.
Although our carers often work on their own with the people we care for, we carry out competency observations and unannounced spot checks to make sure the care being delivered is of the highest standard. We carry out regular reviews with you to make sure you are happy with your care team, and we always welcome your feedback.
Our carers have regular supervisions with us and the chance to de-brief, so they feel supported. We hold regular refresher and specialist training, including clinical tasks such as managing PEG feeds, suction, catheters and stomas.
Around a third of our carers have been with us for five years or more, and our longest-serving carer has been with us for nine. Every member of our operations team started out as a carer. We recognise and reward the important work our carers do, including long service awards.
We are rated Good overall by the CQC, with Outstanding for Caring (January 2024). We have been rated Excellent in our last three PAMMS inspections, and we are proud to have won the HCPA Care Culture Award in 2023 and the HCPA Most Innovative Homecare Team award in 2024.
